AGM 2021 – New Executive Elected

By For Home Page, Last Month's Meeting

Congratulations to the new Executive

Due to the NSW State Government health orders, the Picton Chamber of Commerce and Industries AGM was held online via Zoom on the 25th August 2021. Many thanks to our Returning Officer Matt Deeth for chairing the meeting.

Our twenty twenty President and life member Geoff O’Brien held a round-table, or round-screen, asking members to share their experiences running their businesses during these times of government imposed Covid sanctions and regulations. It has been a real mixed bag for member businesses with some unable to open their doors at all while others offering services and products essential for at-home work and schooling were run off their feet.

Geoff then recapped Chamber highlights of the previous year which included the Resilience Event which paid tribute to emergency first responders, businesses and community members who, through flood, fire and drought, fought all the odds to stand with their colleagues in support of one another.

The growth in membership during the last year stands as testimony to the need for support through organisations like the Chamber and we encourage business persons to join our upcoming meetings and events where you will find much needed support and encouragement while navigating the uncertain terrain that running a business and supporting a family during these Covid times bring.

All executive positions were declared vacant and the following members were elected to executive positions:

  • President: Jo-Anne Bentley, Uniquely Local Events Co-odinator

  • Vice President: Kylie Greffenius, Photogreff Photography

  • Treasurer: Frank Di Bella, Accountant

  • Secretary: Pat Nellestein, River Road Creative Academy

  • Executive: Christine Di Bella, All Essentials Pty Ltd

  • Executive: Aaron Greffenius, Loan Market

Members of the chamber thanked the outgoing executive for the previous year’s service and welcomed the new executive with multiple zoom screens of applause.

The new President, Jo-Anne Bentley, spoke of her plans for directing the Chamber over the next year which included building on work of the previous year’s executive to continue as an avenue of communication with community, State, Federal and Local authorities to inform members of relevant events and information.

The President also moved to elect Geoff O’Brien and Ren Moolhuyzen as Joint Chairs of the Picton Chamber Inaugural Golf Day Event which was unanimously adopted.

The next Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 22nd 2021 at 6:30pm. Venue or Zoom link to be announced

September 2021 Meeting

Wednesday 22nd September 2021

This Meeting:

Trifun Vusovic

Project/Contract Manager, Transport for NSW
to discuss

Transport for NSW is upgrading the historic Victoria Bridge over Stonequarry Creek, Picton.

Stage 2 has commenced and can only be completed with a full 24/7 closure of the bridge and Prince Street to traffic.

We will be joined by an officer of Transport for New South Wales, Trifun Vusovic, who will update members about the upgrade.

This heritage listed bridge was designed by Percy Allan and opened on 7 October 1897. It features the tallest trusses in New South Wales and is one of the oldest surviving bridges of its type.

Elements of the bridge, including the top timber chord and supports under the bridge, have significantly deteriorated over time and rehabilitation is essential to maintain the safety and reliability of the heritage listed bridge and ensure its continued operation.

Stage 1 of the rehabilitation work was completed in early May 2021. They replaced the timber top chord structure and installed temporary supports under the bridge. Work beneath the bridge was also completed to improve support and prevent further deterioration of the structure. During the first stage of rehabilitation, the bridge was closed to traffic during the day and reopened after work hours, while maintaining the ability to reopen the bridge quickly in the event of an emergency.

The second stage of rehabilitation work will start from will take up to four months, weather permitting. Stage 2 can only be completed with a full 24/7 closure of the bridge and Prince Street to traffic. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the work. The full closure will allow them to replace the timber support structure beneath the western end of the bridge with concrete. Transport for NSW  investigated different options to carry out the work efficiently while providing a safe environment for motorists and workers. But the location presents a unique space that restricts site compounds, parking and work space. It is not possible to carry out this work while Prince Street and the bridge are open to traffic. Stage 2 has been scheduled for completion outside of bushfire season.
