February 2021 Meeting Update

By For Home Page, Previous Meetings, Projects

Wednesday 24th February 2021

We had a great turnout at last night’s meeting where we heard from Council Officers and Consultants about the  Wollondilly Community, Cultural and Civic Precinct.

For those who have not heard the news Wollondilly Shire Council was successful in obtaining funding for cultural and civic development from the Government’s Western Sydney City Deal. This funding has been provided to improve cultural and civic infrastructure and last night we were updated on the development progress of the ten year project to upgrade Wollondilly’s Civic District in Picton.

Stage one of the four stage project is already under way with the refurbishment of the Community Hall and architectural design preferences being made for the public areas and building facades.

Included in stage one development (2020-2023) is the demolition of buildings and relocation of some services, new car parking, initial refurbishments of the Shire Hall, construction of a new performance space and construction of a new childcare building.

Stage two (2020-2024) includes construction of a new Council Services Centre and basement parking.

Stage three (2023-2027) includes the creation of a new green civic square, demolition of existing Council building, further Shire Hall improvements, additional car parking.

Stage four (2026-2030) includes the construction of new library and learning centre, repurposing of existing library, and public domain works across the Precinct and to Colden Street and Corbett Lane (formerly Manolis Lane).

Officers took questions from members who had concerns regarding traffic movement and green spaces.

At a previous meeting Chamber members were updated with the traffic management plan for Picton which is already being implemented. Integrating existing traffic management and town spaces plan with the new cultural civic centre project has been a large part of the planning process. A village green has been incorporated into the plan with an expected use for community events and markets.

We will certainly be keeping a keen interest in the progress while working with Council providing feedback.
